Customer Reviews – M.T. Mayo Corp.
We hired M.T. Mayo Corp. to demo our old house so we could build a new one on our property. They came in and had our house torn down and loaded into trailers all in the same day. They were quick, professional and very neat, not leaving any debris behind. They also excavated for our new foundation as well as installed the necessary drainage structures for water run-off. M.T. Mayo Corporations price was very competitive and the service they provided was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend M.T. Mayo Corp. in the future.Jim - North Andover, MA
M.T. Mayo Corp is a contractor I would highly recommend to anyone looking for excavation services. My husband and I purchased a home in Lexington and M.T. Mayo demo’d the existing house, dug the foundation for the new house and installed our new water and sewer service. They were very professional, and finished the job on time and under budget. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and we are incredibly happy with the finished result.Lauren
Very prompt, courteous and professional. He came out to our house, and when he realized we needed a different kind of service than he could provide (general contractor) he was very up front with us.Very Prompt
When we called Matt we were in a bind. The sewage way backing up into the house and my wife was days from having our first child. I felt completely helpless. I first started trying to clear the sewer myself. I started with my hand snakes, then I bought a RIGID drain auger and tried to clear it for a few hours. Then I brought in a professional drain clearer, who told me I had a collapsed pipe. I started calling a number of people on Angies’ List. Matt was the first to return my call and provided the best price of the four contractors that I called. We was also the quickest to setup an in person meeting. From the beginning I could tell Matt was the smartest and the most motivated of the various excavators I met over the course of a few days.
Matt arrived on time and when he said he would arrive. I was extremely impressed with his crew. They were all very talented and continually impressed me with how they handled the difficult situations they encountered in my yard. Kevin (one of the operators) was extremely talented. The job turned out to be much more difficult than imagined as the sewer pipe was precisely laid in a bedrock trench from the house to the sidewalk. As such, the crew had to follow the existing trench, which cut across my lawn to run down the length of a newly landscaped bed of plantings. Neither my wife nor I could believe our unfortunate luck. Kevin and Matt saved all of the plantings off to the side (in the middle of January) and we called our landscape designer who told us they were not going to make it.
Matt and his crew removed all the old pipe and laid the new pipe. Everything worked perfectly after that. The job ended up being much more difficult than either Matt or I thought, but Matt was always focused on getting the job done right and stuck to the agreed upon price. He never once showed any frustration or asked for anything else, even though I think he may have lost money on my job.
Matt saved us from a really bad problem, two days before my wife went into labor, and they saved and replanted all the landscaping (and it all survived). I can say this with surety because of my delay in writing this review. I cannot recommend Matt highly enough for what he did for us.
Matt and team were knowledgeable, had the right equipment for the job (a couple of excavators, a bobcat, a couple of trucks/loaders), and stayed committed and stuck through to the end. I would definitely use them again.
The project started with the sewer pipe, which ran into some problems due to the town (the pipe was back pitched towards the house in the street) and MT Mayo and team worked through those issues. They moved the driveway and took out numerous stone walls (150 feet @ 4 feet high in all), and then went onto digging the new foundation. When digging we ran into ledge from 2ft to 4ft down, and eventually my forming contractor (a different team) pinned the new foundation to the ledge, after MT Mayo and team excavated and cleaned the ledge with an air blaster.
They backfilled, graded everything, put in a base for my new driveway, and re-built some rough new-england style rubble walls for me (400 feet in total).Sewer Pipe
I hired M.T. Mayo Corp. to install a new copper water line as well as a new 6″ sewer line into an investment property I had acquired. M.T. Mayo installed the services and repaired the asphalt street in a timely manner and to the city’s and my satisfaction. M.T. Mayo Corporations price was very reasonable and I was very happy with the overall job. I would recommend M.T. Mayo Corp. to anyone I know.Steve - Woburn, MA
I used MT Mayo (Matt Mayo)’s company for a number of things including: installation of new sewer pipe including concrete cutting through my existing basement and excavation to the street, complete landscape removal (trees, shrubs, bushes, hedges, rocks), excavation of a new addition foundation for a 28×24 addition
-removal/moving of numerous stone walls and moving of a driveway by 100 feet from North location to South location. It sounds like a small project, but it actually was one of those that just kept going and going and going….

These guys are a great mid-sized excavation and general-prep work company. I used them for a mid-sized project ($20k) including sewer through to a new foundation through to large stone wall work and drainage. They were consistently there and pushed through to the end to get the job done in a timely (AND FAIR) fashion.Excavation
First the price was fair, in line with what other quality excavators estimated. Matt was man of his word if he told me he would show up on a given day he did. He stayed with the job until the work was completed. Matt and his crew took great care to minimize damage to surrounding garden and flowers. The pool needed to be totally removed because of local building codes. This was a big job ( for me ) and I was more then pleased with the work of Matt and his crew.
I delayed this review because the final Loam and grade was held because the hot summer was not good for growing grass. Matt had me hold back some money for the final steps. When I hired a landscaper he worked with Matt and I ended up making the final payment ( a fair price ) to the landscaper. All of this flowed smoothly and I am a very satisfied customer.Swimming Pool Removal
It went very well. Matt is a responsive and energetic young fellow. The work was done as promised. When we found that the area that Matt filled settled over the winter and became a bit lower, Matt came back and put in additional loam with no cost and no argument. His price is also very reasonable. I feel I can trust him and would hire him again.Pool Removal
I initially spoke with Matt Mayo who was very knowledgeable and familiar with the work. He provided a competitive quote and showed up two weeks later to start the work.
The crew were all very professional and extremely nice. They went out of their way to fix/regrade areas (and pull out stumps) with a clear intention of providing a totally complete well done job. Since my house is and gt;50yrs old installing a perimeter drain can be more challenging as the footing is covered with old mortar. But, Matt and the team were very meticulous and made sure everything was level so that the system would function properly.
Overall, the work was completed perfectly and performed by a group of people who knew what they were doing and did it well.
I would highly recommend M.T. Mayo Corp again.Drainage System
My husband and I hired M.T. Mayo Corporation to fix a drainage problem we had been having for years. The guys came and installed a concrete trench drain in our driveway as well as installed 4 large Cultec units in our backyard. They then piped the the trench drain and all the down spouts off our house into the Cultec units in our yard. They alleviated all of our flooding problems and we will be forever grateful. We strongly recommend M.T. Mayo Corp. to anyone needing this type of work.Virginia - Wakefield, MA
M.T. Mayo Corp were hired to excavate and install a drainage system on my house. The work entailed excavating around the perimeter of the house, digging a trench 100 feet away from the house, digging a 12 foot diameter pit for a concrete H20 leaching well, and installing perimeter drain as well as tons of crushed rock. I initially spoke with Matt Mayo who was very knowledgeable and familiar with the work. He provided a competitive quote and showed up two weeks later to start the work.

We wanted to remove an in-ground swimming pool because my insurance company would not underwrite an inexpensive policy with a pool. In addition to the swimming pool removal, we also added the removal of an unsafe/non-code deck and a large ugly shed. Westwood, MA requires Building Permits for demolition to make sure all procedures, including electrical/gas disconnect, are followed. Matt called the DIG number and we were set to go. Once the licensed electrician pulled all electrical work from the pool pump, we could begin. The weather did not cooperate and delayed the project several times. Finally the snowfall stopped/cleared and we were able to start. Matt kept us informed all through the project. He listened to our concerns and went beyond the call of duty to help us get this project going.
The pool, deck & shed removal went smoothly. However, once we started to remove the cement patio (it was not to code, cracked and even with the foundation), we found buried secrets (literally & figuratively). The patio excavation revealed a sewer pipe sleeved in electrical conduit with two horizontal 90 degree elbows with no clean out…. and it went uphill from underneath the backyard around the perimeter of the house to up the main sewer line! Once discovered, Matt immediately stopped work and called the city Engineer to inspect. The city was wonderful in the quick response and was of great help. We were told Westwood had little information on this older property. The sewer was once septic, but poorly converted to a sewer line without city documentation. This explained the bottles of drain cleaner left under each sink (as if that would help defy gravity by making the sewage flow uphill).
At this point, we really could have been taken for a ride financially but Matt didn’t do that. He went to work getting the necessary permits, engineering report, etc., to dig in the front yard to lay a correct sewer line connection. Since the previous paperwork of the poorly connected sewer line was not much help, that added the difficultly in actually finding the connection from the old line that snaked up hill to the city connection.
So much work went into the coordination with plumbers, the city, etc. Matt was a tremendous help. We found everyone on his team were easy to work with. Finally after the crazy sewer surprise was fixed, Matt graded the backyard with topsoil and the backyard looks great.
When the building inspector came out for the final inspection he commented how nice it looked. We would highly recommend Matt Mayo to anyone looking for excavation work. He went above and beyond the call of duty for us.
